What is this?Think & Drink Different is a live talk—by a leading expert, in a bar, for curious minds. You come for the ideas, stay for the conversation, and often leave with a new perspective (and a few new people). It’s a growing community for those who enjoy learning in a relaxed setting—with a drink of your choice, alcoholic or not. We currently host two talks per month, and we’re building toward a full program across topics and locations. Most talks are in English, some in Dutch. Each event page clearly lists the topic, language, speaker, time, and location—so you always know what to expect. It’s for anyone who enjoys learning, thinking, and asking questions. Whether you’re in academia or just curious about the world—you’ll fit right in. Coming solo? Many do. The vibe is open, relaxed, and welcoming.

What’s our vision? We believe big ideas don’t belong behind university walls. Our mission is to bring academic knowledge into public life—where it can spark debate, curiosity, and connection. We make learning social again: real experts, real people, real conversations. It’s not about dumbing things down. It’s about opening them up.
-
What topics do you cover? We focus on ideas that matter: from AI, astronomy, and climate to philosophy, psychology, health, and the science behind everyday life. If it’s smart, surprising, and sparks discussion, it fits.
-
Who are the speakers?Researchers, professors, and thinkers who know their field—and know how to share it. Expect clarity, energy, and a talk that makes you think long after it ends. Some past talks: – The Neuroscience of Martial Arts: How Training Rewires the Brain – Dr. Guy Shpak – How to Create a Universe – Dr. J.P. van der Schaar – From Chaos to Clarity: Using Math to Navigate Uncertainty – Prof. Sandjai Bhulai – Trapped in the Matrix: Your Experience of the World is an Illusion – Dr. Surya Gayet

How long does an event last?Talks last about 45-60 minutes, followed by Q&A and informal drinks. Expect to spend around two hours total—though many stay longer.
-
Can I cancel or transfer my ticket?Tickets are non-refundable, but you’re welcome to pass yours to someone else. Can’t make it and want to attend a future talk instead? Email us at thinkanddrink.ams@gmail.com and we’ll try to help.

Why do I have to pay?To cover the venue, the speaker, and production costs. For less than a basic dinner in Amsterdam, you get an evening of insight and good company. We don’t offer student discounts yet, but we keep tickets as low as possible.

💡 Why I Started ThisOver the years, I kept showing up to lectures, talks, and courses—chasing new perspectives. But something always felt missing. I wanted depth without the distance. Experts without the stage. A space where people could learn, think, and talk together—over a drink. So I built it.

🌍 What Makes It DifferentI personally curate every event and speaker. These aren’t random academics—they’re engaging, passionate, and brilliant at explaining what they do. Whether it’s black holes or moral dilemmas, AI or the brain, you’ll hear ideas that stick—and you’ll get to talk about them, too.
